Our History
The Omaha Association of Black Professional Firefighters was founded in the early 1970s as a response to racial disparities within the Omaha Fire Department. It was established to advocate for equal opportunities, combat discrimination, and promote diversity and inclusion among firefighters in Omaha.
Vision for Omaha's Firefighting Future
We envision an Omaha where firefighting embraces all, with at least 12% representation from the Black community. Addressing the decline in Black firefighters and fostering enthusiasm for the profession is paramount. We are dedicated to offering top-tier services to prospective and current members. From recruitment and test prep to mentorship and workplace support, we provide the support to ensure our members thrive.
Championing Diversity in Firefighting
With the Fire Administration's support, we strive to make Omaha's firefighting community reflect diverse contributions. Firefighting transcends a job; it safeguards homes, neighborhoods, and the future of our city. We're committed to making the profession representative of Omaha's diversity. We extend gratitude to our members and supporters. Together, we champion diversity, safety, and inclusivity in firefighting, making Omaha a better place for all. Join us on this journey as we shape the future of firefighting together.
