Recruitment Approach:
The Omaha Association of Black Professional Firefighters primarily recruits potential black firefighter candidates by engaging with churches in North Omaha. This outreach allows us to connect with community members who may be interested in pursuing a career in firefighting.

Member Involvement:
The organization also relies on its members to individually recruit potential candidates. They actively engage with individuals who show an interest in firefighting through social media channels and recommendations from current firefighters.

Community Engagement:
During various community volunteering events, recruiting efforts are also in play. By participating in these events, we not only provide support and presence in the community but also identify potential candidates interested in becoming black firefighters.

Preparation for Candidates:
The Omaha Association of Black Professional Firefighters offers mock interviews to black firefighter candidates, preparing them for actual interviews with leaders at the Omaha Fire Department. These practice sessions help candidates build confidence and refine their interview skills.

Realistic Interview Simulations:
The mock interviews are designed to simulate real interview scenarios, ensuring candidates experience a similar environment and pressure. This hands-on approach helps candidates perform well during official interviews.

Candidate Empowerment:
By providing mock interviews, the organization empowers black firefighter candidates to face interviews with confidence. It's a valuable resource in their journey toward securing a firefighting position.

Community Engagement:
The Omaha Association of Black Professional Firefighters actively participates in community events, serving as a community sponsor for events such as Music at Miller Park and Bobby Byars Community Safety Day, serving food during Thanksgiving and adopting families at Christmas. This presence allows us to engage with the community and strengthen our bonds.

We’re in the process of organizing CPR classes to teach life-saving skills for emergencies where someone's heart has stopped or they're not breathing. Key aspects covered include Basic Life Support, chest compressions, rescue breaths, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use. CPR is vital because it can save lives by maintaining blood circulation, preserving organs, bridging to defibrillation, empowering individuals, and enhancing community safety. It's about immediate response, organ preservation, empowerment, and improving overall public safety.
